
Peter took me to Ringwood yesterday to fish the River Avon. We walked upstream and then fished in various spots on the way downstream. We saw 2 fish, but failed to get even a bite. Enjoyable though. I tangled my line but managed to untangle it on my own, and I managed to cast into a tree, and extract the fly myself.
The water meadows were full of flowers – I had no notebook, but I remember seeing marsh marigold, meadow buttercup, cuckoo flower, comfrey, ribwort plantain, dandelion, red campion, bugle, and a small white flower I had never seen before.
We saw (and heard) reed warblers and pheasants, and I heard a cuckoo – I can’t remember the last time I heard one.
